Let them contact you!

It's important to let your prospective customers contact you, right? Of course it is! That's why we all have a "Contact" link in our navigation menu. At least, we all should have a "Contact" link in our navigation menu. It's essential to make it as easy as possible for our prospects to contact us. You need to assume that if the website visitor has to think at all to contact you, he or she will be lost in a deep, endless pit of lost business.

One trend that seems to be on the rise lately is having contact forms on websites instead of listing contact information and having an email link. This drives me absolutely NUTS! I do not want to fill out a form in order to contact you! Nobody wants to do that. Having a form on your website does not impress anyone, and it makes things more complicated for the user. Maybe you think that you're saving yourself from that gosh darn pesky spam email. Well, you are. Great job! But, you're also saving yourself from more business. Don't do that lame "name [at] domain dotcom" thing either. It forces the user to think too much, and the spam robots are smarter than that.

Fortunately, the spam robots haven't quite picked up on Flash yet. So, it's currently safe to display a clickable link to your email address in a SWF file on your website. It's easy and it really works. If you can't afford to pay someone like me to do it for you, just put your email address up the old fashioned way and deal with the spam. It's worth it if you get business.

Get Rid of That SPAM

Everyone except me complains about spam. Wanna know why I don't complain? Because, everyone except me gets a lot of spam! It's not because I never give away my email address or because I don't use it. It's because I have multiple email addresses. I have one email address that I actually use to communicate with people. And I have another email address that I use to collect my spam. The way I target my spam to the one account is simple: I only use my spam email address to sign up for things online. I also only post my other email address on my website in a .swf file because the robots don't seem to be picking up email addresses from .swf... yet.

If you magically start getting spam on your non-spam account you can stop a lot of it by simply clicking the "Unsubscribe Me" link in the bottom of the email. I recommend using a free email service with good spam filtering as well. I use Yahoo! Mail and I'm often amazed at how well the spam filter works. If you follow my advice I promise you will reduce your spam!

p.s. NEVER buy anything from a spammer! The reason why we get spam is because it actually works. There are some morons out there who buy from the spammers and ruin it for us. Don't be one of them!
